I'm not gonna lie, let's start rocking out here. These songs kick major ass, and you need to listen to them now. Most of these songs are less than a year or two old, but we have one oldie but goodie from Australia for all to enjoy, mate!
new songs and singles I've been digging, PART 1 (from September 2005)
Foo Fighters - DOA (MP3)
Muse - Hysteria (MP3)
the Killers - Under the Gun
Weezer - Perfect Situation
My review of a Weezer show I attended in October 2005 at George Mason's Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Franz Ferdinand - Darts of Pleasure (live from Austin City Limits Music Festival)
This tune is an awesome live rendition of a great Franz song. Highly recommended.
Green Day - She's a Rebel
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies) (MP3)
Ryan Adams - Trains
Seafood - Heat Walks Against Me (thanks to merz from Mars Needs Guitars for this one)
AC/DC - Hard as a Rock (MP3)
It is painfully obvious that AC/DC just decided to predominantly write songs about their schlongs, since, in the spirit of Spinal Tap, they claim to have armadillos in their trousers.
"Hard as a Rock" is the song that fellow, younger Aussie band Jet blatantly rips off with their tune, "Cold Hard Bitch." I'm of the thinking that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (all rock and roll essentially is), so that's ok by me.
much more to come, including more MP3s

you are right and I agree.. I think Jet's Cold Hard Bitch cranks and also view it as a strong nod to AC/DC, and as you correctly say the sincerest form of flattery!
For someone who claims to be proud of his Duke heritage (an arugable fact, from what I've heard), I'd be personally ashamed of your one paragraph missive (a childish attempt, no less) on the fine/upstanding environment of racial/cultural tolerance in Durham.
Further - you clearly demonstrate a level-headed (and stereotype free) perspective when you say, "every single lacrosse player I have ever met is a flaming asshole" and then post qualify it w/ a meaningless rant on your glory high school days.
Pardon me for believing the University got what was coming to it ... Brodhead in particular.
As a blogger who aspires to offer the world fresh insight and critical thought processes - you continue to come up woefully short.
(Go ahead and erase this post - as per the norm when it comes to slightly controversial comments ... what a poser)
Who said anything about my "glory" high school days?
You must be gay, because you MUST have sweated me big time in HS or something, otherwise I have no idea why you would assume there was any "glory" whatsoever for me in high school.
Not that there's anything wrong with being gay, dude, I hear it's very "in" right now, good luck with that!
As for me, I was a LOSER in high school. I never had a girlfriend because I was to afraid to hook up with all the hot girls that liked me (there were many). If I could talk to myself back then, I would call myself gay and tell myself to get with the fucking program.
How else do you think I got into Duke, without playing sports? Answer: I was in the top 5% of my class at a money high school, I got a great SAT score, I could write like you wouldn't believe (helped out nicely with my Application), and I am a minority.
Bingo, recipe for getting into pretty much any school in the country.
As for Dick Brodhead, he came to Duke from Yale, so he automatically sucks. Although, to be fair, he's not as awful as the Communist Pinko Nan Koehane... based on my 5 minute conversation with her my freshman year, and all her ridiculous policies and stances regarding politics and living on campus, I believe she is an awful human being. But not as bad as you, at least she's done something meaningful with her life and affected people - you're just a self-serving pissant.
I'm proud of my Duke heritage, you are correct, jackass. However, I met a ton of pricks and assholes just like yourself while in Durham. I used to be a nice guy, and an idealist. Not so much anymore, and I have Duke to thank for that.
I did grow to somewhat resent Duke because it made me realize that our upper classes are a filled with self-righteous and ignorant assholes. Not everyone there, but most of the people I got to know. Must have been my mistake, I just ran with the wrong crowd, I guess.
Duke is like that one girlfriend (or boyfriend) that you fell in love with while you were naive, then started hating when they treated you like shit, and then keeps popping back up at weird moments in your life, making you feel happiness for a time, and then resentment when things don't work out.
I must be Ross to Duke's Rachel.
I am a poor Hispanic kid, and it wasn't easy dealing with that because I am also overly emotional and fragile. Some poeple would call me a pansy. But I'm tired of getting mad and crying aout it, now I'm just going to get even, then come out way ahead.
Duke University turned me into a more well-rounded, objective person, and made me more real than I could have hoped for at any other university. There's nothing like adversity to turn a scared boy into a more resilient boy.
By the way, the next time you decide to come out of your retarded, insecure shell to post on my blog, at least try to keep your boneheaded asshole comments under posts of relevancy.
In other words, this post is about music... if you want to be an idiot, fine, but at least share your bullshit comments under the appropriate posts.
People like you, the fucking retarded pricks that infest our world, make me realize we're headed down the path to death and destruction at 1000 miles an hour.
Get the fuck out of here, and go back to Russia.
You're outmatched in every way - Sun Tzu would tell you to retreat for several years before mounting your next "strike," if you had any common sense whatsoever.
Stay classy, Mr. Anonymous!
Wow remind never to fuck with you ! Fuck ! Give it ta that "tard" ! Way ta go kid .
Hey I was gonna say "Great Songs' , But whew .
anonymous comments are weak.
i'm not into the whole "gay" this or "gay" that thing, but i understand your anger at that commenter and your love/hate relationship with duke.
don't let the bastards grind you down....
peace
